Abbeydale Live, Sheffield’s newest music festival, will transform Abbeydale Road on Saturday 26 April 2025, featuring over 50 live acts across 14 venues with free entry for all, born from the collaborative efforts of local traders seeking to celebrate and revitalize their unique community.
50+ Acts Across 14 Venues
The one-day music trail will showcase a diverse lineup of talent across Abbeydale Road’s vibrant venues. While the full lineup is yet to be announced, confirmed acts include the Langsett Dance Orchestra, University of Sheffield Big Band, Montuno, and emerging performers from WaterBear Music College.
Participating venues span the length of Abbeydale Road, including The Bear beer emporium, Rumkeg Caribbean cocktail bar, and Cole’s Corner cafe. The festival will run from 1pm to 11pm, offering a full day of entertainment across all locations. Tim Foulerton-Walker, who brings experience from major festivals including Glastonbury, Tramlines, and No Bounds, will oversee the festival’s operations, ensuring a seamless experience for attendees as they explore the area’s unique cultural offerings.
Abbeydale Traders Association Origins
Abbeydale Road has a rich history of community engagement and local business collaboration. The Abbeydale Traders Association emerged from the area’s longstanding tradition of cooperative development, drawing inspiration from Sheffield’s industrial heritage. The association represents businesses along the Abbeydale corridor, which takes its name from the district running along Sheffield’s Sheaf Valley toward the old abbey at Beauchief (pronounced “bee-chiff”).
The association follows in the footsteps of other successful Sheffield cooperative initiatives, such as the Sheffield Co-operative Development Group founded in 1980. Members work together to promote the area’s unique character while supporting local economic growth. This collaborative spirit is evident in the Abbeydale Live festival, which exemplifies the association’s commitment to creating vibrant community experiences that celebrate the area’s distinctive culture and heritage, much like how the South Yorkshire Industrial History Society helped preserve Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet in 1956.
Tim Foulerton-Walker Festival Coordination
Tim Foulerton-Walker brings extensive experience to his role overseeing Abbeydale Live’s production, having established himself as a seasoned programmer and event coordinator with deep roots in Sheffield’s cultural scene. His expertise spans major festivals including Glastonbury, Tramlines, and No Bounds, making him well-positioned to manage the festival’s behind-the-scenes operations.
As festival coordinator, Foulerton-Walker is responsible for carefully managing event operations, ensuring seamless coordination across the 14 participating venues and overseeing the logistics for the 50+ performing acts. His local connections and understanding of Sheffield’s unique cultural landscape have been instrumental in bringing together the diverse array of venues and talent that will transform Abbeydale Road into a vibrant celebration of music and community.
